Rather than change the library further this PR simply changes the git version comparison to use simple version compare ignoring the issue of pre-releases. Go-version constraints ignore pre-releases.

Rather than change the library further this PR simply changes
the git version comparison to use simple version compare ignoring the
issue of pre-releases.
